Matt's Bike Buddies
This is my buddy Jake's Ducati 750 Monster. His first streetbike was a CBR600F3, but his heart longed for a Monster. The summer of 2004 finally got him his wish. This bike has had some mechanical mods done to the 748cc V-twin, including the nice 'n' pretty carbon-fiber G&G dual exhaust (Jake claims the power feels a lot more like a 900 than a 750), also a multi-pod gauge cluster around the speedometer (white face... nice). The clear taillight lens is also a nice dress-up piece for the rear. Jake did a custom bob modification to the rear tail section, and it resulted in a dramatic appearance improvement over the semi-awkward looking rear fender that was there before. And in case you're wondering, yes, this 750M is the Monster Dark model in flat black. Wicked.
This is a wild Yamaha V-Max belonging to Byron Williams, co-owner of North End Cycle in Elkhart, Indiana. The V-Four motor (rated around 175 rear-wheel horsepower) has been extensively modified by Superbike Mike Engineering in Florida, with extensive polishing and chroming work done to various bits and pieces on the bike. The rims are aftermarket hoops from Performance Machine. This bike burns the quarter mile in 9.86 seconds at 140 mph. Also note the conversion from shaft to chain drive.
OK, so maybe this is less than "cool", but this 1992 Kawasaki EX500 was my first streetbike. It's not a ZX-11, mind you, but it will still outrun nearly anything with four wheels and anything resembling a couch with wheels and monkeybars. A great first bike, and if I had to buy another first bike, I'd buy another one of these babies.
